Last September, the Postal Service’s inspector general reported on poor working conditions at a postal facility in New Mexico, finding that the heat and air conditioning hadn’t worked in six years and it had dangerous electric wiring as well as serious plumbing issues. That prompted the IG to wonder if the Postal Service had systemic facility problems. It started a series of nationwide inspections, starting with 20 facilities in the Washington D.C. area.
