About one thousand patients in the Riverside Health System of Virginia are victims of a privacy breach. A licensed practical nurse stole Social Security numbers and electronic medical records over a span of four years. The Daily Press reports the hospital discovered the breach after a random audit. Riverside is now contacting the victims of the data breach and trying to find new ways to secure its system. The Department of Health and Human Services also just reached a 150 thousand dollar settlement for another data breach with Adult and Pediatric Dermatology in Concord Massachusetts. Healthcare IT News reports someone stole an unencrypted thumb drive with medical records for more than two thousand people from the vehicle of a staff member.
