  • The Defense Department establishes a new Advisory Panel on Streamlining and Codifying Acquisition Regulations. It was mandated by Congress in the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act. Its sponsored by the Defense Acquisition University and the National Defense University. It will provide an independent assessment of regulations to explore if any are unnecessary.   • Same Sex marriages are now formally recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. A final rule published by the agency updates terms regarding marital status for federal tax purposes. The words “husband,” “wife,” and “spouse” can all now be used to mean individual lawfully married to another individual in all U.S. states, territories and possessions. (Federal Register)
  • Chris Knox, managing director for Deloitte’s Transactions and Business Analytics is appointed by the Archivist of the United States to serve on the Freedom of Information Act Advisory Committee. The 20 member advisory committee is tasked with studying the current FOIA landscape across the executive branch and recommending legislative action, policy changes or executive action. (Deloitte)
