In this week’s show, we take a look at disability employment programs in the Defense Department.

Our guest for the first half of the show is Stephen King, DoD’s director of disability employment programs. He talks with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu about hiring disabled Americans in the Defense Department, including some of the special hiring programs that are designed to facilitate that hiring.

Later in the hour: When it comes to technology that helps disabled federal employees do their jobs, one Defense Department office is responsible for providing equipment and advice to more than five dozen federal agencies. Dinah Cohen is the director of the Pentagon’s Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program. She discusses some of the assistance her office provides for feds with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, and says in some cases, making “reasonable accommodations” doesn’t even mean having to invest in new equipment.
