The Senior Executive Service is 35-years old, and yet it's never really worked the way it was intended. It didn't develop into the mobile cadre of managers who move from agency to agency. The Brookings Institution and Booz Allen Hamilton are holding a brainstorming session today with government leaders to discuss whether, and how, the SES should change. Sloan Gibson, VA's deputy secretary, said he's proposed the removal of Susan Taylor, the deputy chief procurement officer at the Veterans Health Administration. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee members approved the Senior Executive Service Accountability Act. The bill would reform the law governing the Senior Executive Service, in part by doubling the probation period of SES members and requiring agencies to justify the positions of SES staff every two years.
