The National Institutes of Health is offering a government-wide contract for information technology that could be worth up to $20 billion. The Chief Information Officer – Commodities and Solutions will last for ten years and covers IT requirements across the entire government. It will focus heavily on support for agencies working in healthcare, including the NIH and Health and Human Services Department. The contract includes everything from fax machines to genetic sequencers. The solicitation on Fed Biz Opps says the non-medical technology is important because the new healthcare infrastructure will need to interact with legacy systems. The CIO-CS contract is the successor to NIH’s current Electronic Commodities Store III contract expiring in November 2014.
