Defense describes plan to break up IT office

Things are changing fast for the Pentagon’s top tech office. Federal Times quotes a Defense Department memo that describes how the Pentagon’s Networks and Information Integration directorate will close its doors in March.

The functions and personnel will be divided among four other DoD entitites.

General James Cartwright, Joint Staff vice chairman, and Christine Fox, director of DoD’s Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation, will oversee the process. Their plan is due by the middle of next month. The final plan comes two months later.

It is part of Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ decision to eliminate $100 billion in costs, and transfer the savings to weapons programs.
