Marines move forward with base relocation

The U.S. and Japan will proceed with relocating U.S. Marines in Japan. But now it will be after the original deadline of 2014. The Defense Department wants to move its air base to a new spot on the island of Okinawa. More than half of 47,000 American troops in Japan are located there. Japan is helping pay for the multi-billion-dollar project. But the Japanese government has faced opposition from its citizens, forcing the delay. Cash-strapped Japan faces a $300 billion tab for earthquake and flooding damage.
