DoD to honor blood donors in 2012

January is National Blood Donor Month.

The Defense Department plans to recognize blood donors early next year.

Officials with the Armed Forces Blood Program say the people who contribute are saving lives every day.

National Blood Donor Month is in January. Defense.gov reports the Pentagon will recognize those donors who contributed to the Armed Forces Blood Program.

The joint program provides blood products for service members and their families in both peacetime and war.
