DoD cyber acquisition stategy described as ‘too bureaucratic’

Some Defense insiders are calling for the department to rethink its cyber acquisition strategy saying it is too bureaucratic.

Sources told Defense News that DoD is behind on implementing the new plan and may in fact be exploring other options.

The plan calls for a board to oversee cyber acquisition and another team to advise the department on the latest technology. It’s all intended to help DoD buy cyber tools quickly.

DoD is still finalizing details, even though it should have implemented key parts by now.

The department has used rapid acquisition in the past to buy critical battlefield equipment.

But cyber tools are more experimental in nature and the latest technology changes all the time.
