Overseeing the Overseers

The Bernie Madoff scandal has raised some interest in the Securities and Exchange Commission on Capital Hill. The House Financial Services Committee looked into the SEC’s response to allegations about Madoff’s misconduct at a hearing yesterday. Our highlights included testimony from the Inspector General at the SEC, David Kotz.

Personnel Matters

The so-called “retirement wave”, attracting new Federal employees, and some other issues are ready for the new Director of the Office of Personnel Management to take on. Former OPM Director Linda Springer, now with Ernst and Young, offered some suggestions to the new OPM leader on how to get things done at the agency.
