On this week’s edition of On DoD, we get a preview of the forthcoming Army Training Information System (ATIS).
As of right now, there is no single system that gives the Army a big-picture view of all of its training programs, and there’s no way for leaders to manage those programs holistically. Instead, they’re faced with a mishmash of one-off solutions that are mostly centered around the needs of individual Army bases, and which generally don’t communicate with each other.
ATIS is intended to solve that problem. Earlier this month, the Army held its first industry day and released its first request for information for the program. There’s no official cost estimate yet, but for internal planning purposes, the Army’s using a ballpark figure of $450 million.
Our guest is Joel Phillips, the ATIS project lead within the office of the Army’s program executive office for enterprise information systems. He spoke with Jared Serbu at the PEO-EIS headquarters at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
