After Epsilon hack, watch out for more phishing scams

Expect a wave of spear-phishing e-mails looking for personal information and log-on credentials. This after Epsilon, an online marketing firm, was hacked. Thieves harvested millions of valid e-mail addresses.

ComputerWorld reports Epislon runs online marketing and customer loyalty programs for several major corporations such as Best Buy and Visa. Spear phishing is the mailing of messages tailored to look familiar to the recipient.

The e-mails are often expertly crafted so they appear to be coming from a trusted source. Epsilon has acknowledged the hacking. Last year, the company sent 6.5 billion e-mails on behalf of clients.
