  • The Commerce Department is the latest agency to join the early out and buyout list. GovExec reports employees at several agencies inside Commerce can take the early-out any time from now until December 31, 2012.
  • The Pentagon is on the verge of streamlining its IT acquisition, at least part of it. Deputy assistant defense secretary for command, control, communications, space and spectrum, Dr. Ron Jost, says the new approach will focus on computer network attacks, computer network exploitation and computer network defense. Dr. Jost says the approach should go live by September 20-12.
  • Four senators are telling the Defense Department to figure out a strategy to collect $209 million that defense contractors owe the Pentagon. The Defense Department’s Inspector General says one reason the Pentagon will have trouble collecting the money is because their financial management system is in bad shape. Some of the debt has been on the books since 2005.
  • A new organization at NASA is up and running. The Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate is a combination of the former Space Operations Directorate and Exploration Systems Directorate. NASA says the new organization will focus on International Space Station operations and human exploration beyond low Earth orbit.
