The Submarine Learning Center, at the Naval Submarine Base New London, has won a LEED silver award for being green.

The center’s headquarters uses geothermal heating a cooling systems and is built out of recycled building materials, according to Navy.mil.

“This is a ‘greener’ and ‘leaner’ Navy facility,” said Capt. Marc Denno, the commanding officer of SUBASE.

The building cost about $7 million dollars and is about 40 percent more energy efficient than U.S. energy code requirements.
