In recent weeks, the General Services Administration has become synonymous with wasteful conference spending after the agency’s inspector general revealed GSA had spent more than $800,000 on a Las Vegas conference.

The conference spending scandal may have had a ripple effect on other federal conferences. Earlier this month, the Defense Department canceled an annual procurement conference that was supposed to take place later this month in Orlando, Fla. And GSA has “postponed” a new media conference scheduled for next week in Washington.
