ACT/IAC: VA health IT system needs modernization

Working group chair Ed Meagher says the VA\'s health IT system is one of the best in the world, but it\'s also over 30 years old.

Six months ago, the VA Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology asked ACT/IAC to provide industry recommendations regarding the modernization of VistA — the Department of Veterans Affairs health information system.

VistA currently supports about 8 million veterans who are all served in some way by the VA.

The IAC VistA Modernization Working Group has sent its final report to the VA.

Ed Meagher is chairman of the Working Group; former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Technology, Department of Veterans Affairs and currently the Director of Strategic Health Initiatives at SRA International.

He gives us details about what they recommend.
