Rose Garland
St. Louis FEB Executive Director

What’s the best part of working in your FEB area?

It is home for me, the FEB has so many worthwhile initiatives and the executive director position is the best job in the federal government.

What is the biggest drawback of working in your FEB area?

I cannot think of any. These federal agencies recognize the importance of the FEB initiatives and work together to fulfill them.

What’s the one piece of advice you would give a fed moving to your area?

Enjoy the four seasons. If you don’t like the weather, wait 24 hours. It will change.

In a word, describe feds in your area.

The great thing about being the FEB executive director is that I work with the cream of the crop. My heart is always warm when I think how hard federal government employees work to make St. Louis federal government a great place to spend 8-9 hours a day.

How are feds perceived in your area and how does that affect morale?

Federal employees are just trying to do a good job for the public and accomplish what Congress has asked us to do. I hope most St. Louisians realize that.

What’s the average commute for feds in your FEB area, or your personal commute?

I spend 20 minutes one way, but it all depends on the highway you take. Some people who are in a more rural area, could spend a hour each way.

Is the distance from D.C. a blessing or a curse?

I love the Midwest. We aren’t far from anywhere.

What’s your area’s can’t miss attraction?

Of course, the St. Louis Arch! But, we have a free zoo that is second to none, a beautiful Missouri Botanical Garden founded by Henry Shaw, during the summer free concerts almost every night in different locations and the restaurants in the city of St. Louis are as diverse as you can imagine.
