In outbreaks of foodborne illnesses, time is of the essence.

The Food and Drug Administration recently launched the CORE Network — the Coordinated Outbreak Response and Evaluation Network.

The program is supposed to help health officials respond quickly to human and animal foodborne illness outbreaks and do so in a more integrated and streamlined way.

While FDA has long been involved in food saftey, McGarry discusses what’s new about this program.

McGarry also discussed what the program’s goals are and how the agency will measure success. Plus, will the launch of the network mean new hires at FDA or will the openings be filled with existing staff?
