Lawmakers concerned about cloud security pitfalls

Not everyone is sold on the security of the cyber cloud.

ComputerWorld reports that lawmakers are worried about control of agency data, data portability and whether cloud vendors will be targeted by cybercriminals.

During a Cybersecurity Subcommittee hearing, five of seven witnesses defended cloud computing. They say it can save federal agencies significant money and allow them to upgrade their technology much faster than they can with in-house systems.

But lawmakers questioned whether agencies should use the services of foreign cloud providers. They also wanted to know what happens to the data if the cloud provider goes out of business.
