March 5, 2013 — The Obama administration is encouraging federal agencies to be transparent and interact more with citizens.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is a shining example of both of these initiatives.
Today’s interview is with Mary Givvines, the deputy director of Information Services at the NRC.
She talks about the NRC improving the way it provides information to journalists and researchers through a system called the Agency Documents Access Management System (ADAMS).
The system provides over two million citations for research.
Twenty five years ago the NRC started a conference called the Regulatory Information Conference.
This year it will take place on March 12-14 in Rockville and expected to draw over 3000 participants.
This three day event has numerous heavy duty plenary sessions as well as lighter “table top” presentations that cover topics like using social media and crisis communication.
Much of the material that the NRC allows to be searched as well as the presentation material is subject to federal restrictions.
Listen to the interview to learn how you agency can increase transparency, hold conferences, and do all with documents that contain sensitive information.
