The back-and-forth is on hold now in the Senate over the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act. The bill encourages private companies and government agencies to share information with each other about potential cyber threats. Both amendments to the CISA are holding it back.One would give the Office of Personnel Management an extra 37 million dollars to fix its IT networks a year ahead of schedule. The other would give victims of OPM's data breaches a few more years of free credit monitoring. Ryan Lucas is an intelligence reporter for CQ Roll Call. President Barack Obama just established a National Strategic Computing Initiative. Three agencies will lead the way: Energy, Defense and the National Science Foundation. The initiative calls for strong collaboration with academic and private partners. The work at one supercomputing facility is an example of what can be achieved through that collaboration. With a grant from the National Science Foundation, the Center for Computational Research has developed a supercomputer management tool that's being used to improve performance and limit backlogged requests at industry, academic and government supercomputing facilities. Now they have plans to make it even better. Dr. Tom Furlani is director of the University at Buffalo's Center for Computational Research. He joined Jason Miller on the Federal Drive with more.

President Obama wants to build one of the fastest supercomputers ever in the next 15 years. The exascale computer would run about 30 times faster than today's fastest supercomputer. It's part of the National Strategic Computing Initiative in collaboration with the Energy Department, Pentagon, and National Science Foundation.
